Cupid provides inspiration for Elizabeth City’s chefs in February

Prefer dinner for two or with a posse of friends for Valentine’s Day? Special dinner menus are available at several Elizabeth City eateries. With great food and ambiance, a fantastic night is guaranteed. Take in the romantic river views at Paradiso Roma Ristorante (35 Camden Causeway; 252-333-1575). From February 14 through February 28, start with osso bucco ravioli, lamb lollipops or seared scallops. Entrée options include red drum, handmade pasta, angus ribeye, and cauliflower steak with a choice of chocolate-strawberry cheesecake, raspberry mousse, and tiramisu as the finishing touch to the meal. And on Valentine’s Day, romantic packages featuring roses, chocolate-covered strawberries and Champagne are also available. Reservations required. Valentine’s Day is a three-day affair at The Mills Downtown Bistro (200 N. Poindexter St.; 252-621-1471). Its tomahawk ribeye steak for two with potatoes, salad, and chocolate fondue for dessert will be offered on Thursday the 14th, Friday the 15th, and Saturday the 16th for $105 per couple. Carolina Carriages will also offer horse-drawn rides and Liza Franco Photography will capture the evening’s highlights (priced individually.) Reservations required. A special four-course dinner is being offered for Valentine’s Day at Island Breeze Grill (220 N. Poindexter St.; 252-338-0048). Start with a choice of glazed honey barbecue wings or chicken tenders followed by a spring mix salad with cucumber and blue cheese. Entrée choices are lemon pepper salmon, braised beef short ribs, lasagna and eggplant parmigiana with carrot cake, chocolate ganache cake, or chocolate-covered strawberries for dessert. The price is $60 per couple, which includes soft drinks and a glass of wine—and if you bring Mom as your date, it’s $55. Reservations required. The Valentine’s Day menu at Hoppin’ Johnz New South Cuisine (606 E. Colonial Ave.; 252-679-7716) is a seafood lover’s delight with fish feature in all three-course options. Start with a choice of Tobacco Onions, Fried Green Tomatoes, Scallops Hoppin’ Jack, Oysters “Rockefeller,” or Smoked Oyster Chowder. Then choose a Weeksville Mixed Greens, Roasted Beet, or an Arugula-Smoked Salmon Caesar salad. Entrée selections are Prime Ribs of Beef, Shrimp and Grits, Classic Chesapeake Crab Cakes, Chicken Napoleon, Shrimp Scampi Primavera, Angus Tenderloin Filet and the Chef’s Fresh Catch of the day.
